Our Story
Since 1979, Lee’s Donuts has been serving handcrafted classics from the heart of Granville Island, building a legacy rooted in quality, tradition, and community. Today, that legacy continues with a new generation of owners, honouring what made Lee’s iconic while thoughtfully shaping its future.
Lee’s Donuts has been a part of Vancouver’s fabric since 1979.
Lee’s Donuts first opened its doors in the historic Granville Island Public Market. Founded by Alan and Betty Lee, the shop quickly became known for doing one thing exceptionally well: crafting fresh, handmade donuts the traditional way—no shortcuts, no compromises.
From the very beginning, Lee’s built its reputation on consistency, quality, and community.
Generations of locals grew up lining up for their favourites, from classic honey dips to seasonal creations, all made fresh daily using time-honoured techniques. For over four decades, the Lees nurtured not just a business, but a place that felt familiar—where customers became regulars, and regulars became part of the story.
In 2018, a new chapter began.
A group of local Vancouver entrepreneurs took the reins, united by a shared respect for what Lee’s Donuts represents and a commitment to preserving its legacy. Their goal wasn’t to reinvent Lee’s—but to thoughtfully build on its foundation.
Today, Lee’s Donuts remains rooted in its original values while continuing to evolve.
The same dedication to quality and craftsmanship lives on behind the counter, alongside new ideas, collaborations, and flavours that reflect the city we call home.
Through it all, one thing hasn’t changed: Lee’s Donuts is still about simple pleasures done right. Fresh donuts. Made by hand. Shared with community.
